Chairman’s Update June 2020

Dear All

There are clear signs that the lockdown is starting to be relaxed and we may be able to get back to some hockey over the summer.  England Hockey have provided some guidance which you can pick up from their website.  Hopefully there will be some further news by 22 June that will move us beyond social distancing and towards some social hockey.  Anyway we are working on our plans and hopefully there will be some activities going on at the Club once we get to July.

I mentioned last month that a number of people have said that they are willing to help – but we do need you to actually tell us rather than waiting to be asked.  We do need more volunteers and particularly more people to support our Schools’ project next year.  Without your support we will not be able to make this happen.

A number of members asked about further training sessions and we have provisionally agreed a further training session from 7pm – 8pm on Monday evening once the season get underway.  The initial thoughts are to focus on Technical Development for players across the whole Club for both men and ladies.  But we will need to get adequate numbers to make this viable and productive.  If you can’t make Tuesday or Wednesday – look at whether you can make this session on Monday.

You may have also seen that we are looking for a Ladies 1st XI Coach for Tuesday evenings and Saturdays – so if you are interested in this role you should let us know as soon as possible because our preference would be to give this opportunity to someone within the Club rather than an external appointment.

Finally please note that the AGM will be on 20 July.  We hope to hold this “in person” if the lockdown rules allow but if not you will be able to join by Zoom.  This is your chance to find out what we have planned for next year and have your say in how the Club is run.

Best Regards

John Herbert
WHC Chairman
